Maple Burl and Resin Bowls

I have been continuing to work with the Birdseye Maple I got from Nick and Heather in Burton. Some sections of this tree were rotting, but the wood around it is beautiful. I spent a couple days working with this and essentially making toothpicks from telephone poles, trying to cut down to good wood for a bowl. Eventually, I stopped and tried something new, hollowing out bark inclusions and wood rot and filling it with colored resin.

These bowls have a metallic mahogany colored resin and I think they have a nice look and it makes me really happy to be able to save this beautiful birdseye maple by augmenting the bowls by filling in rough spots.

Here are two salad bowls, I have three more of these maple and resin bowls to finish and about thirty other birdseye maple bowls drying.

Love to hear your thoughts.

All Good Wishes

Ric
